This blog post is brought to you by Linda S., an advocate and supporter of VisionTrust who is part of our advisory council.
Our visit to Andong Village and their VisionTrust school, located on the outskirts of Phnom Penh, Cambodia, was yet another confirmation of the love, commitment and dedication that the VisionTrust team has for the most vulnerable children in the world. Serving as Advisory Board members, my husband Neal and I decided to take our 10-year-old daughter Ava along so we could better understand, as a family, the challenges and triumphs experienced daily by the Andong Village children. We visited the school first and were so impressed at what we saw. We were greeted by Abraham, the school director, and were quickly inspired by his testimony to serve the Lord and his passion to love the Lord’s children.
We visited the classrooms, which were set up with all the essentials a student needs to learn: desks, chalkboards, workbooks, dedicated teachers and a curriculum that included the promise of love, forgiveness and salvation. The children were dressed in uniforms and stood eagerly at their desk as they greeted us with song and shared some of the recent lessons they had learned. It wasn’t until we walked through the village did we truly understand the impact the VisionTrust program was making.
Many years ago the village residents, made up of 1,500 families, were displaced from their homes by the government and left in an area with no resources, access to clean water, food, sewage control, drainage pipes for flood control, opportunities for jobs, school and other essentials. Although much improvement has been made to create better shelter, the overall living conditions are devastating.
Our visit helped us clearly see that the VisionTrust school and program, run and managed by an amazing “on the ground” local team, serves not only as a refuge for these children, providing education, food, spiritual guidance, but most of all…love and hope for a better future. I am grateful to the Lord for leading my family to Andong Village and for allowing our hearts to grow and compassion to deepen, especially for our daughter Ava. As we start our journey home to New York, we are even more encouraged then ever to continue our support of VisionTrust and their mission.
