Every day, children come to our projects undernourished and hungry, unable to focus on learning and often without the energy to simply play or enjoy being a child. While parents work hard to fill their children’s stomachs, they’re often only able to provide starchy, inexpensive foods that have limited nutritional value.
Proper nutrition helps give every child their best chance to live a healthy and productive life; but the daily malnourishment so many of these kids face saps their energy and leads to the stunting of both their growth and intellect. We work in countries where at least one in four children is too small for their age, and in others where the proportion of nutritionally challenged children is closer to 50 percent.
Helping the children we serve grow up to “Live for God and Love Others” requires not only spiritual development, but attention to their immediate needs for things like food, clean water, and other health interventions. To help meet these needs, we provide direct food aid at our programs to help ensure these kids can grow and learn.
We also understand that direct aid is a short-term solution, and other, more sustainable solutions are needed to serve these children and their communities for the long-term. To help break the cycle of poor nutrition, God has blessed VisionTrust with experts in agriculture, nutrition, sustainable gardening practices, and engineering who are working diligently to ensure our long-term efforts will allow the children and communities we serve to be nutritionally self-sufficient.
We are working to implement innovative community projects like chicken farms and sustainable gardens. These projects will work in synergy to provide complete sources of nutrition, employment for the community, and vocational skills for some of the older VisionTrust students.
Please join us as we seek to fill the nutritional void that so many of the kids we serve face—through both immediate and long-term solutions that will create healthier children and communities. If you haven’t already, consider joining the #GivingTuesday movement on December 1, a day designed to unite people around the globe in the act of giving back. All donations given to the VisionTrust #GivingTuesday campaign will be applied toward food needs—and just $30 can feed a child for six months.
