At Casa Luz I was blessed with the opportunity to get to know Milagros (Translated=Miracles).
Milagros has been at Casa Luz since she was only a couple days old. Jorge and Mariela (VisionTrust’s local heroes at Casa Luz) were told that because of a mental disability she would never be able to walk or talk. Now Milagros is nine years old, and not only is she one of the most energetic children I have ever met, running and skipping everywhere, she is also learning to say words and phrases.
Although she can’t fully communicate in words, Milagros understands all and she definitely communicates in love, as cheesy as that sounds. Milagros’ love and affection for people is literally exhausting, yet never exhaustive! Upon entering Casa Luz, I would be greeted with big hugs and kisses from this precious child and this would continue all day long until we had to part ways with a small hand squeeze and blowing a kiss.
When I was preparing for this time in Ayacucho, one of my worries was that I would go and be over-aware that my time there would be short. I was afraid that I wouldn’t be able to love the kids there to the capacity that God asked me to love them out of fear of the pain of having to say goodbye. But, God gave me this child who loved me so fully that I couldn’t help but shower her with love in return! What an unexpected answer to prayer! What a miracle!
