Over the past year a team of health professionals with experience in global health and healthcare organization has been setting the stage for a new approach to the health care provided to VisionTrust children. In July the first phase of the Global Health Services was piloted in Guatemala; in October the team worked with six projects in Liberia to consider how our approach would work in Africa and in February the team will pilot our approach with 27 projects in India. The team has put extensive effort into building structures for health promotion and disease prevention to compliment the long standing and responsive abilities of the VisionTrust team to work with the acute health situations.
Key to the work of the team is a clear focus upon:
- Setting up a sustainable structure, including designated roles and formalized connection to local health assets;
- Focusing upon the top health indicators to track ongoing health of individual children and the overall health of the children at a site to set priority to the use of healthcare resources;
- Collaborating with national teams to be prepared to educate teachers, parents and students on the relevant health care challenges for each region.
How can you help?
If you are a healthcare provider traveling on a team for VisionTrust, we need your eyes to help us more quickly gather information about local health assets and health challenges. We need you to focus your attentions on activities that can provide information to building this plan. We need you to collaborate with us on your team goals and assessment. Of course, we need your focused prayers and resources that you might commit over time to our ambitious commitment to moving this global project forward.
We will be refining our structures and systems after our final round one pilot in India. We will be revisiting each of the three pilot countries over the next few months to continue to seek how to create a sustainable approach to disease prevention and health promotion.
We covet your prayers!
