Kids are kids no matter where they live or what language they speak. I was reminded of this during craft sessions that we conducted with the kids in Ngundu, Zimbabwe. Give a child some glitter and some glue and they have a great time!
My favorite memory during craft time is of one little boy who was probably about 3 years old. We were doing a craft that required a little scissor work. He was sitting on the floor with his supplies in front of him but he had nobody to help him with the cutting and decorating.
I sat down next to this little guy and started to help.
I cut out the design for him and then started handing him small foam letters with sticky backing that he could put on his paper. His sweet, confused face started to relax a little bit and I saw a smile. Then I put one of the foam letters on his cheek. He took the next one I handed to him and he put it on his face, too. And the next one and the next one and the next one!! He had a face full of foam letters and the most beautiful smile in the world!
A simple little connection and a bunch of silliness created a happy moment and a wonderful memory.
