Meet Tila Chikufenji, our Country Director for VisionTrust Malawi.
Tila’s dream as a young man was to be a journalist, but due to certain circumstances he graduated from Malawi College of Accountancy with an accounting degree. His first job was an accountant with AFROX and after three years they transferred him to marketing. After two years in that position, he wanted to do work that helped his nation through community development. The Lord gave him a position at FINCA Malawi where he learned how to do micro-lending. After that, in an effort to further develop his skills, he was contracted to assist in a gap analysis, to compare the national education system to the more successful private schools in order to make recommendations on how to bridge the gap and improve the national system.
With the help of Tila, VisionTrust established VisionTrust Malawi as a local NGO in 2012. The first VisionTrust project was opened in the village of Katsekera, southeast of Lilongwe 4 hours by jeep. The program started in 2012 with feeding the neediest children, mostly orphaned, under the age of 5. Now, one year later, the program is helping nearly 100 children up through first grade.
