This summer a group of college students headed to Goiânia, Brazil to work with children at our Learning Centers and help host an overnight camp for them. Amanda M. from University of Colorado at Colorado Springs gives us a real glimpse into questioning God’s plans in Brazil.
Brazil was without a doubt one of the most amazing weeks of my entire life. God is doing such amazing things for the kids in Brazil through the help of VisionTrust and, of course, Projecto Amar.
During my time in Brazil, it was a true blessing to see the Body of Christ working together so incredibly diligently to better these kids’ lives. These kids deserve the world and at first, I struggled with understanding their circumstances. I couldn’t comprehend why God had placed them in a place that is so full of violence and daily hardships. Throughout the first few days I was in Brazil, I found myself just asking ‘why?’
However, I wasn’t fully aware of what God was ultimately revealing to me.
He was wanting me to just trust Him, completely. Again, at the beginning I found myself questioning God and just thinking about how I could try and manage these kids’ situations, but ultimately it was completely out of my control.
Then one night at the weekend camp for the kids, I was praying, crying, and cradling one of the precious kiddos in my arms and again, asking God why and just thinking that these kids didn’t deserve to go back to the homes they reside in and the abuse that some of them face daily. I kept wondering what I could do to save them from that, but then God just asked, “Amanda do you trust me?” and that’s when I was able to completely surrender and break down and fully admit that yes, I do trust God, completely.
I trust Him to care and provide for these young ones and to protect them from situations that are far beyond my control. I can fully trust that God is capable of all things and that undoubtedly includes the sustainment of these precious children. I love those kids so incredibly much, so I can only imagine how God feels about them. His love is so big! I can honestly state that I completely trust Him with their lives. It is not only the easiest solution, but it is certainly the best solution as well.
I really enjoyed working with the local ministries through VisionTrust. It is definitely comforting to know that these projects are still working even when we aren’t there. God is amazing and the way He is working in those kids’ lives is just incredible. I’m so incredibly thankful for the opportunity He gave me to go and literally be His loving hands and feet and completely devote myself to loving and caring for these kids.
Again, my trip to Brazil was one of the best experiences I have ever had. I’m already looking forward to my next mission trip but for now, it’s comforting to know that I can still make a difference in these children’s lives through the amazing works of VisionTrust as well as Latte Losers.
