This past fall, United Presbyterian Church in Peoria, Illinois, decided to partner with the VisionTrust Projeto Amar preschool in Goiania, Brazil. This church’s decision to love and support the children and staff of Projeto Amar is an incredible answer to prayer. Since many areas of Brazil are affluent and it’s no longer labeled as a third world country, VisionTrust has had limited success with finding a passionate and committed group of people in the United States willing to serve the poor and vulnerable children living in the slums of Brazil.
During the Lent season, United Presbyterian raised funds to purchase teaching materials for the preschoolers at Projeto Amar that will help dozens of children learn through fun and exciting tools. Not only that, they also found children’s books in Portuguese to send to the school as a gift for the children and teachers.
United Presbyterian has its own preschool, and the director is excited to engage her young students in blessing their little friends in Brazil this upcoming school year. The mission committee of the church is also discussing several ideas of how it can continue to offer opportunities to serve these beautiful children. It’s clear United Presbyterian believes that whether you are a tiny child or a grown adult, God can use you to bring hope to the poor and vulnerable.
