While most of us don’t think twice about turning on the tap to get a drink of clean water, many children in the developing world don’t have access to safe drinking water. For example, at just one of the VisionTrust projects in Guatemala, there are currently fifty children whose families don’t have clean water available in their homes.
Last fall, Mark Hopper from Upstate New York decided that he could be a part of making sure these precious children are protected from waterborne illnesses by raising funds to purchase water purification buckets for their families. Mark and I worked together to communicate the need to his church community, First Baptist of Ballston Spa. Their response was incredible!
Mark hoped to raise around $600 to provide at least ten water purification buckets, but his church community blew us both away when they raised $3,256! Not only did First Baptist fund all fifty of the water purification systems, they also had funds left over to help with other needs at the Learning Center. Next month, fifty children and their families will be able to take the first of many drinks of clean water in their homes. Thank you to Mark, First Baptist of Ballston Spa and everyone who is a part of VisionTrust for making stories of generosity like this one a reality!
