Enjoy this end of the year update from Nelson, our National Director in the Dominican Republic.
Hello dear friends, much blessings and greetings from all the people in my office who are always praying for you.
The month of November was very active, the first part of the month was a great blessings by being able to purchase a lot of school and office supplies for every project and in the case of Remar also provide for the uniforms of the students, that was a great need. We were packing all the supplies when Dr. Jill, and the Korpis (who came to perform eye exams) arrive in the country. What a blessing that was. Dr. Jill introduced to all the principals the Global Health Plan, that was very encouraging, also she heard first hand from the principals and other people at the table what the needs were from every program.
As the Korpi’s went to several projects, they end up testing over 1,000 people, including some teachers from the projects they went to see. These were Ens. Altagracia, Cotui, Herrera, Kettys house and Remar. A significant number of children will receive glasses in the next few days. This is awesome.
My time with Jill received an unexpected event, the birth of my son Hector Paul who was on plans for November 23rd, but the Lord had a different plan and he came the 8th. We as a family are highly blessed with a healthy baby boy (the days and nights after that day were shorter or longer depend how you evaluate them).
The plan to meet with the students on some projects and teach a lesson about the Living for God and loving others didn’t stop, and was shared at Sabana Perdida, Las Brisas, and Ketty’s House. At each site the joy was awesome, I had the same lesson I used on the first projects and the response from the adolescents was good. I’m looking forward to visiting Comendador before the school closes this month.
The visit of a small team to Cotui to install some solar panels and lights in some of the houses and the big room was a blessing for everybody. The families were chosen by Milagros (the project director) from those that didn’t have an inverter system, and when the power went off at night they had to light candles to see, very dangerous. Now they have a nice light, bright enough to see well, all they need is sun during the day to charge the batteries. Also some lights were installed at the gym there, and they were able to have some sport at night. More light need to be install, but this was a great start.
There was not a better way to end the month of November than having the Heights Church blessing the deaf children, wow, that was great. All the vocational training, the fixes at the school, drama, lessons, were very good. We also had a very good interaction with the staff of the office, celebrated Thanksgiving all together and next morning the team made breakfast for all, it was a great fellowship.
At Christmas, every project had a special day to celebrate with all the students and their staff; THANK YOU for making this possible. We really appreciated all the support you gave us and especially for the children whose only Christmas celebration was the one at the project.
Much blessings, and thank you for your prayers for Hector Paul and Sobeyda and Nelson Oscar (my family).
Hope to see you soon!
