Our VisionTrust interns in the Dominican Republic are wrapping up their last week with U.S. teams, but this week’s team is one they’ve never met before. Let’s follow their experience as we hear from Tiffany, a senior at Oklahoma State University.
This week was our first week without familiar faces. The past two weeks we have been with the groups from our home church, but this week we were with a group from Ohio. The three of us were eager to meet the other church that partners with VisionTrust to work in Cotui. Since we would be a part of that team for the whole week, we were hoping and praying that we would mesh well together. I am happy to say we got along great!
It meant a lot to have the opportunity to work with the other church. It is awesome to see how God put the same dream and vision in people’s hearts from across the United States. And even though we had not met until a week ago, we have been partnered together for the past seven years to accomplish the same goal in the village of Cotui. Our prayers for the community of Cotui even from states away and without having met have been the same. How cool is that?
The last day was definitely the highlight of my week. After working solely on construction, we were able to accomplish more than what was on the schedule and had a festival on the last day for all the kids.
Even though we loved getting to work with our Ohio friends, when it came time for them to leave we could barely contain our excitement because we would not be getting on the bus with them and our time living in the village would begin. It was the best feeling taking our suitcases off the bus and having a group of kids walk with us to our home for the next few weeks. As the team drove away, we did what the kids always do and ran alongside the bus, waving goodbye until we got to the end of the street. And I must say, being on the outside is much more fun than being on the bus driving away.
Now that we are finally here, our English classes and discipleship program will officially begin! Please continue praying for the girls we will be mentoring and the community of Cotui.
It is so encouraging to know that God is stirring like feelings in people all across the U.S. and our world. The instant connection we share only comes from the passion Jesus has placed in each of us to accomplish the same goal…to live for Him and to love others. It is amazing to be allowed to be part of His great plan for this world.
