The Food Security and Health Teams paid a recent visit to the Dominican Republic to evaluate how we can support their efforts toward sustainable food sources for VisionTrust children. On the trip we had three agricultural experts, Andy, Stan, and David meet with local farmers at two of our Dominican projects. In Cotui the team met with a local farmer who spoke about his farming operation while we all stood near the rice paddy he was working that day.
The visit was a good reminder that men of God are found everywhere. The team was amazed at his strong Christian character and words. When we looked at this very thin older gentleman who had many health challenges and injuries, we didn’t just see a farmer who could provide us information about farming in the Dominican Republic. The hearts of the team were touched in the rice paddy as they saw a real person, real pain, a real follower of Christ and real joy. It is a memory that the team will cherish—a memory that serves as a reminder we are all one family through Christ. Whether we are a farmer, a doctor, a pastor or a teacher, we all serve the one true Lord. Truly He was magnified through the quiet powerful words of this farmer.
Our team walked away wiser about farming practices, but more importantly truly blessed by the exchange. God can use us all to his glory!
