After I got back from our India trip my daughter said to me, “The boys were sick and I had lots of questions.” We heard the same thing in India; grandmothers are influential to the health actions of mothers around the world.
As we sat and listened to how tightly the grandmothers of our Indian projects held on to traditional health practices, it made me pause. We had not thought about them when we considered who would be the most critical to influence changing health practices.
While we visited a government children’s hospital we heard about delays for care of children with scorpion and snake bites based upon grandmothers demanding traditional health practices. We also heard about branding children to pull out the jaundice for kids with hepatitis. Once again our health team finds itself spending much time learning about health practices and resources in our journey to support the health of VisionTrust children. I have added the grandmothers high on my list and pray that God gives us all wisdom to guide our children through Him.
