This letter is from Nelson Paulino, our National Director of the Dominican Republic, for the mission team members who came to the DR this year.
Hello from the always-warm Dominican Republic. Before I say anything else, I would like to say thank you so much for coming to the Dominican Republic this year and blessing our children, the programs, communities and in fact our nation. I pray you still remember the great time we spent together, the smiles of the children, the kindness of our people and the joy the Lord put in our hearts by being together doing His will. Thank you for being obedient to His call.
In our Bible we find this passage Isaiah 52:7, “How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion, “Your God reigns!”
Up to some point I am glad the Dominican culture does not include “washing someone else feet” as a symbol of welcoming or respect like in some ancients cultures. But I do have to say that once again the Bible is right about the joy it represents for us to see you coming on a mission trip to help the children and the leader in each community to do a better job. As a constant man like Samuel in Comendador, a lady like Milagros in Cotui, Maria Antoine in Ens altagracia, Esther in Brisas, Maria in Kettys house, Francisca in Sabana Perdida, Paulina at the Deaf school, Ybelise in Herrera, Pastor Tomas and Sonia in La Represa and our hero Caito in Remar, try in their best ways to express the same words mentioned by Isaiah because this is the real way we feel about your visit. We love when you come!
Why? The passage tells us why…
You bring good news… So many times this year we heard somebody came to the Lord because of what a team member was sharing one on one or in a group, it happens all the time. The good news also means for us that you came because you care and because there is love in your heart for us. This is good news!!
You proclaim peace… Because you show us in a practical way what it means to love your neighbor, help those in need and provide for them. A child who is loved, fed, has fun, is educated and is tough about Jesus on a regular basis is a great candidate to be an adult of peace. Thank you for planting in our children the seed of peace.
You bring good tidings… Every time a team arrives in our country, so many good things happen, so many prayers are answered, and so many goals are accomplished in the time of the Lord. You are the angels He is using to bring such great news!
You proclaim salvation, not just for our souls, but also for our bodies—bringing health, education, provision, and infrastructure that reaches out to the hundreds and thousands as a testimony to our nation that there is hope in Jesus. By building or equipping a classroom, a school, a water plant, salvation is right in the middle of our community. Thank you!
You are telling us our God reigns… Even we see a lot of injustice in this world, your arrival to the Dominican Republic, your gifts being used to help us and bless us, your money being invested for the good of our children, your tight schedule becoming flexible to come for a week, and all the wonderful things God does while you are here, are unequivocal signs that God is the King! And HE REIGNS!!
If I may, I would like to ask you to do two things, first to consider returning as soon as possible to my country, to our children and leaders who are lovingly waiting to see you again and second, take your shoes off and look at your feet as you read last part of this verse in Romans 10:15, “As it is written: ‘How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!’”
Thank you so much for coming and being part of the ministry of VisionTrust in the Dominican Republic.
