With your help through sponsorship and Million Meals, we are currently providing nutrient-rich meals to over 2,000 children across three different communities in southern Zimbabwe. Praise the Lord!
In 2013, you may remember we started Million Meals—a 5-year sustainable feeding program connected with agricultural training and leadership development. Through this training, local leaders and farmers are learning different drought-resistant farming techniques and they’re already seeing improvements in crop yield. We will continue feeding children and training farmers as we slowly transition towards the goal that—someday soon—communities will be able to feed their own orphaned and malnourished children.
According to UNICEF, over 5,000 children under the age of 5 die every single day in Eastern and Southern Africa due to hunger. Without proper nutrition, children are often unable to function normally, have trouble focusing in school, and are more likely to become sick.
Yana Zhou, wife of Country Director Davison Zhou, recalls the teachers at the Learning Center saying, “Before when the children were really hungry, they were consistently very sleepy and not able to listen. But now [through the help of Million Meals] they are concentrating and improving in school!” Other schools in Zimbabwe are asking VisionTrust for help because they see, as a result of the added nutrition, how well the children are doing.
There are still thousands of children in Zimbabwe that don’t have access to proper nutrition. Together, we can help. For $24 a month, you can provide 100 meals to help us continue to feed more children and provide opportunities for sustainable, community-owned solutions.
Thank you for being a part of helping children in Zimbabwe grow up to live for God and love others!
