Nepal Progress Update
Because of our time spent in the districts of Dhading and Gorkha since the earthquake, we’ve been able to build relationships with affected Nepalese families. Now God is laying the foundation for long-term ministry in these communities.
Overall, the children attending the three existing Learning Centers are already noticeably tidier in their appearance and more disciplined in their behavior. Parents are happy to see these positive changes so quickly!
In Gorkha, the Learning Center received permission to build a restroom and kitchen, so construction will begin soon. Future plans for the children include regular classes periodically interspersed with spiritual focus classes, sports sessions, education on HIV and drugs, and special activity days like community clean-up. We thank God for a village leader who, along with her family and neighbors, are eager to learn about Jesus! They have started a prayer and fellowship group for community members that meets weekly at her house.
All of our Learning Centers begin each day with prayer. In Dhading, when parents first heard about this, they threatened to remove their children from the program. Fortunately, Buddhi Man quickly resolved the situation by meeting with them and making the point that even the local school starts with prayer. We’re thankful the children are able to stay and learn about God’s love at the two Learning Centers in Dhading.
Finally, in the remote area of Northern Dhading, the road to the village is still closed because of the monsoon season; but this hasn’t hindered the people. They have laid the foundation for three unofficial Learning Centers and have been in constant communication with Buddhi Man. Once the road is accessible again, they look forward to working together with VisionTrust in a more official capacity.
We praise God for the Nepalese people’s continued receptiveness to the Gospel and the progress made at the new Learning Centers. Please continue to pray that God’s Kingdom would advance in Nepal.
