Since the earthquake in Nepal, we’ve been working to distribute hundreds of relief kits to villages in the remote districts of Gorkha and Dhading—some of the hardest hit areas. VisionTrust is the only organization these people have received help from.
Because of our time spent in Dhading and Gorkha since the earthquake, we’ve been able to build relationships with affected Nepalese families, opening the door for healing and long-term ministry in their communities. The foundation has been laid for three new Learning Centers—one in Gorkha and two in Dhading.
At our Learning Centers, children can feel safe and encouraged while receiving the supplemental tutoring they need to succeed in school, nutritious meals, and the love of Jesus. These communities in Gorkha and Dhading are very excited and are actively participating in planning and running the new Learning Centers.
The Learning Center in Gorkha officially began on June 8. So far, 36 children are attending and we have hired a head teacher and a cook! In addition, nine others from the community have volunteered to help in other ways at the Learning Center.
DHADING (DHOLA COMMUNITY)
The two new Learning Centers in Dhading officially began on June 12. So far, each is serving 50 children and a cook and head teacher have been hired for both Centers. The children will attend class for two hours, from 4-6pm, six days of the week.
Together with Buddhi Man Shakya, Director of VisionTrust Nepal, the communities have laid out the necessary “next steps” for the Learning Centers.
- Purchase kitchen utensils so food can be provided for the children;
- Purchase school supplies;
- Build kitchens so they will better be able to cook and distribute food for the children;
- Build toilets at the Dhading Centers.
Thank you to all who have prayed and generously given to the Nepal relief efforts. We’re excited to report that $78,614 has been donated—putting us at 92% of the way to our goal. You are helping us be the hands and feet of Jesus to these beautiful people. Praise be to God!
