If you spend any amount of time in Guatemala, and if you listen carefully, you will inevitably hear the phrase “primero Dios.” In English in similar contexts, we might say, “God willing”, but this phrase in Spanish translates a little more accurately as “God first.” Basically the idea is that God will move first and our footsteps can only fall in the paths that He has opened to us.
This past month, I had the privilege of serving as a team leader for Big Woods Bible Church from central Pennsylvania as they shared their hearts and the love of Jesus with the children of VisionTrust Guatemala. If I could use two words to describe this team, it would be “primero Dios.” First of all, despite having to travel on three airlines, losing baggage and getting to Guatemala a whole day late, the team arrived in good spirits and were confident that God had everything under control. Primero Dios.
When we arrived to the village of Cruz Blanca, I got to see the team members jump into action. As they sang songs with the children, played games, created crafts, and taught Bible lessons, it was incredibly evident that every smile, every hug and every laugh they shared came from hearts where the love of God was first and foremost. Primero Dios. And when I talked to the team leaders about their next steps for serving the children and staff of VisionTrust Guatemala, they expressed their desire to share resources and support in the area of spiritual discipleship. Their passion is for every single child and adult that is a part of VisionTrust Guatemala to experience Jesus’ love in a way that transforms them so they live for God and put Him first in their lives. Primero Dios.
Thank you Big Woods Bible Church, for putting God at the forefront of your lives, and for leading others to do likewise. Your church is living proof that when God goes first, and we follow after, incredible stories of life transformation are bound to unfold.
