I had the joy of serving with Rachel on a Connection Pointe team to VisionTrust Guatemala during spring break this year. Later, she applied to intern for eight weeks this summer. We put her to work helping with our annual child update forms, teaching English, serving with our summer mission teams and learning about the administrative side of leadership from our National Director, Rut.
Here is what Rachel had to say of her intern experience:
I was blessed with an opportunity—an opportunity to love. I was fortunate enough to intern through VisionTrust in Guatemala for the summer. During my time there I updated sponsorship profiles, helped out in the classrooms, worked with individual students on their English, and loved on some amazing kids. The most important thing I did however, was share the love of Christ. Working with these children made me realize how important the simple things in life are. These kids didn’t have to let me into their world and yet they welcomed me with open arms. I have never felt so much love in one smile. I am so grateful to have had this opportunity to create long-lasting relationships with the kids and their families. The mission teams taught me that even though different churches do different things, we all have the same God. We are all there to serve him. (Speaking of serving, I have decided to pursue my college degree in Non-Profit Leadership Studies.) This trip has given me assurance that mission work is absolutely what I want to do with my life.
We’re thrilled that God used this trip to help Rachel find her calling. Want to see what God has in store for you on a team this year? Click here.
