Mary Carolina, Maria Esperanza and their baby sister went to live with their paternal grandmother, who in her old age struggles to look after several other grandchildren already under her care. Knowing the family was going through an extremely difficult time, VisionTrust Guatemala staff members Rut Chamale and Mariela Lara stopped by the home to check in on the family, to bring them food, extra toiletries and to pray for them. It was a heart-breaking, yet deeply beautiful visit. As soon as Rut shared their reason for stopping by, the grandmother and other women from the family began to weep, burying their hands in their faces, bodies wracked by sobs. The children did not cry, but sat quietly, watching their family mourn.
After some time had passed, Rut and Mariela joined hands with the family, and prayed for God to touch their lives, heal their hearts and provide for their needs. After their prayer, Rut spent another half an hour with the women, allowing them to share what they’ve been going through and finding out how the VisionTrust Guatemala staff could help their family in the weeks and months to come. Mariela connected with the children, reminding them of all the fun things they would do together when the school year started again in January. Before leaving, Rut shared a few verses from the book of Ecclesiastes – she reminded the family that there is a time for everything, a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to harvest, a time to cry and a time to laugh. She urged the family to cry, but with hope, knowing that things would be better in the future.
If you have a moment, please join the VisionTrust staff in praying for Mary Carolina and Maria Esperanza’s family, that they may experience a peace that transcends all understanding and a hope rooted in God’s unfailing love.
