Thank you to everyone who has been praying and supporting the work on the ground in Nepal!
Thanks to your support, $47,663 has been raised to help hundreds of Nepalese families affected by the earthquake! In just one month, we have exceeded the halfway point to our goal of $85,000 to provide relief kits to 1,000 families.
FROM RELIEF TO REHABILITATION
My wife Cheryl and I returned from Nepal on May 22nd. God is moving there. VisionTrust has the opportunity to be in orthodox Hindu villages like never before. Because of the relief work we’ve been doing, we now have relationships with these communities and the people are ready to hear about the living God that gives them freedom—they have invited us in to minister to them, share the Gospel, and open Learning Centers.
Because so many folks have responded by donating relief kits to nearly 560 families, we were able to set our Rehabilitation Plan into motion while Cheryl and I were there! Our VisionTrust Country Director, Buddhi Man, will be hiring and training the staff we’ll need to begin three new Learning Centers over the next couple months. We will also be working with the communities to help them rebuild.
One of the most practical steps to rebuilding is safely tearing down any homes that are still standing. The current structures aren’t stable, and could collapse and injure people if they’re dismantled by hand. Once that is done, people can begin to rebuild new homes. The second practical step is exploring alternative methods to building new homes using local materials—mainly stone—in a structurally sound way. With the current method, stones are simply stacked with mortar or mud and fall apart when the earth vibrates.
Cheryl and I were sitting on a short wall talking with some village people when an aftershock hit. The look in their eyes was one of sheer fear—this has been a daily occurrence for almost 30 days. The people are scared to sleep inside any homes that are still standing for fear another quake will hit and their home will collapse on them. Please join us in praying for relief from these aftershocks so these people can begin to be released from their fear and feel confident about rebuilding their homes.
RELIEF WORK STILL TO BE DONE
Though we’re beginning work on our Rehabilitation Plan, there’s still plenty of relief work to be done as more families need help. You can still help us reach our goal of raising $85,000 to continue to provide relief kits to 1,000 families. We are now offering tin sheets with the relief kits instead of tents because they provide better protection and can be reused when families rebuild their homes.
If you haven’t already, please consider donating to provide these relief kits for affected families. Click here to donate. Or, text “SUPPORTNEPAL” to 71777. Also, please share with your friends, church, co-workers, and on social media.
Thanks for making this possible! Praise the Lord!
