I continue my prayers for Liberia and all of West Africa. As we re-open our programs in Liberia and move our attention to monitoring children, hand washing stations and updated feeding centers, I keep feeling this need to pause and marvel in the miracle that we are actually having a new discussion when we connect with Liberia.
It was just a few short months ago that world health authorities could not foresee this day would come so soon, with epidemiological experts predicting over a million would become infected. Yet, we’ve begun the countdown to April 16th when Liberia can be declared Ebola free! I keep looking around and wondering, do you all see the miracle that I see? Are we forgetting to lift up God’s glory in this moment?
As we sang Open the Eyes of my Heart Lord at church on Sunday, I found myself praying that my heart would not miss the many miracles God provides each and every day. It is my prayer for all of us, as we stand amazed at the end of the biggest Ebola outbreak ever in Liberia, that we glorify our Lord’s hand in this moment. Let us give praise and not miss the miracle of what we pray will soon be an Ebola-free Liberia.
While the news coming out of Liberia is very promising, our children in Sierra Leone remain at risk. We pray for the rebuilding of the nations in West Africa and the continued generous support of our children and families. We pray as Liberia tries to recreate jobs, a healthcare system and provide food for their nation. Please prayerfully consider donating to continue to provide food and disinfectant supplies to help Liberia as they rebuild a nation from this devastation.
