We recently asked you to join in helping the victims of the Nepal earthquake and are happy to share with you this exciting update:
Thanks to your generous support, $21,556 of our $92,300 goal has been raised since last week and precious supplies for 300 families are being delivered right now!
We are nearly 25% of the way to our goal of helping 1,000 families!
The Nepal Earthquake has now claimed the lives of approximately 8,000 people and injured close to 15,000. This earthquake is considered to be the most powerful natural disaster to strike Nepal since 1934’s earthquake in Bihar. Our VisionTrust Nepal Director has personally visited some of the most affected areas in the districts of Dhading and Gorkha. Buddhi Man explained the situation of the victims as “critical and pitiful,” as most of the homes in the area have completely collapsed and heavy rainfall has made the rescue work challenging. People are suffering—living without food or shelter—and struggling each day to survive.
Since last week, as part of our first response to this crisis, Buddhi Man has been mobilizing local church volunteers to help put together relief kits. So far, enough food, hygiene supplies, and tents to make up 300 kits are now being delivered to families. Buddhi Man and his team are also distributing first aid items for mobile clinics as well as offering prayer and Christian counseling for the victims. We are building relationships with these families with a goal to follow up with them over the next six months. If we have the funds, we are ready to help 700 more families.
Helping the victims with relief kits is just scratching the surface of what needs to be done. Once we’ve met the simple immediate needs of these families, we will begin our second response—the Rehabilitation Plan. This is an amazing opportunity to follow up with the victims in a way that builds relationships and opens the door to lovingly sharing the Gospel, while at the same time, deepening our understanding of what it will take to truly move them from a survival situation to living on their own again. More details on this response will be coming soon.
If you haven’t already, please consider donating to the first response phase to provide relief kits for affected families. Click here to donate. Or, text “SUPPORTNEPAL” to 71777. Also, please share with your friends, church, co-workers, and on social media.
We need your help to reach our goal of helping 1,000 families!
Thank you again for your support. Please join us in praying for Buddhi Man, for his response team on the ground, and for the Nepalese people.
