We began a partnership with J127 in 2012 to launch our first project in Malawi. The VisionTrust mission fits perfectly with J127’s vision of providing funding for community-based programs in Africa that provide care and spiritual nurture to orphans and vulnerable children.
Since our start in Malawi in 2012 we have 76 children registered with only 24 sponsored at the moment.
The children registered are preschool through 1st grade and meet Monday to Friday. They arrive at 7:30 a.m. and stay until 1 p.m. The 1st graders comes in the morning for discipleship, to eat before school, sing songs and pray. They eat porridge with soy and margarine on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and peanut butter on Tuesday and Thursday. All come back twice a week to get a dinner around 3:30 p.m. We did not close for Christmas because the children did not have food at their homes.
Our local hero, Tila, is growing soy beans and eventually corn, cutting down trees to clear some new land now. He started an Irish potato crop tended by the poorest of women guardians in an effort to assist them financially – the first crops turned out nicely. They are already planning for the next crop. Tila reports that the children look much better with the care they are receiving. He also continues to search out the most needy for additional benefits as he can provide them.
